5 things I love
Seville for me is one of the most beautiful cities in Europe. It has a glorious history that has culminated in a melting pot of cultures. Rich in architecture and design, it has a really vibrant cosmopolitan feel whilst still retaining its quaint old charm. The quarters or “barrios” that lie east and west of the river are as different as districts can be, yet they seem to fit together perfectly like a jigsaw puzzle. In this respect it’s hard to only tell you 5 things I love about this city, but as I am forced to make a choice here they are……

There are plenty of things to love about Seville.
1. The walk along the river
The Gualdalquivir river runs straight through the heart of this city and there is a foot path that runs right along side of it. Follow this along, crossing under the many bridges that span the river, and you get some of the best view points of the city
2. Triana or the gypsy quarter
If you cross over the river heading west you will come to Triana. This is otherwise known as the “gypsy quarter”. Here you still get the same wonderful views of the city and the river running through it, except the difference is that it won’t cost you an arm and a leg to eat and drink here. You can pick up a cold “cerveza” and a tapas for a fraction of the price you would pay over the other side of the river.
3. Beautiful architecture and stunning buildings
One of the best things about Seville is that there is something to see around almost every corner. Go off the tourist trail and walk down a quaint cobbled street and suddenly you will find that it opens up into a beautiful plaza or a cooling park. Architecture and design are everywhere and you will find an abundance of it here in Seville
4. The cathedral at night
If you come to Seville you simply have to see the cathedral at night. Being the third largest in Europe and the biggest in Spain, this cathedral makes for an awesome spectacle at the best of times. However at night it takes on a completely different air. This Gothic masterpiece is simply spellbinding when lit up as the spires and towers cast their shadows over the city.
5. Seville in Spring
For me the best time to visit Seville is in the spring time. Between the months of March and May before it gets unbearably hot, the city is filled with the heady scent of orange blossom from the many orange trees that adorn the city. Mix this with the smell of coffee wafting from the many café bars and this is what Seville is all about.
