Very cheap eats
So you don’t have the time or simply don’t want to spend your much guarded cash on eating out. You may well be the kind of person that looks on it as a necessity rather than pleasure. If this is you then no problem. Here are a list of places where you can get some very cheap, quick and easy sustainable food, that will keep you going till the next hunger pangs strike
Colonias
Address – Plaza Cristo de Burgos 19 Alfalfa district
Seville is famous for its many tapas bars, and usually people experience them with a drink whilst going from bar to bar. Here at Colonias the tapas are HUGE and can easily be mistaken for a “media racion” or light meal. Prices range from €1.75- 3.00 depending upon the tapas. So a couple of these with some bread is more than enough for a meal.
Kioskos de Churros y Chocolate
Address – various throughout the city
Churros and chocolate are a great way to start the day and are really cheap. Churros is basically a fried doughnut that is piped. There are plenty of kiosks around the city that sell these freshly made. Some of the most popular stands are at the corner of the Andalusian Parliament Building on Calle San Juan De Ribera, at the entrance to the Triana bridge and the Café Arfe, next to the Postigo gate. You can pick these up for as little as 25 cents each. Do as the Sevillano’s do and dip them in a thick bowl of steaming hot chocolate.
Fast food joints
Like most cities, there are plenty of fast food joints around. A list includes Pizza Hut, McDonalds, Burger King and Kentucky Fried Chicken. You will find some Spanish variations but basically the menus are the same. The one thing that I do like about these fast food joints is that unlike the UK where I was born and raised, they all serve beer!
Pans and Company (3 listed in Seville)
Addresses – Passeo Christina 1, Tel – 954 225 054
Plaza De Armas Tel – 954 902 854
Calle Poeta Munoz San Roman Tel – 955 980 710
This is a Spanish fast food franchise that serve Bocadillos (skinny rolls with various fillings). Prices start from as little as €2.50
Bread Chorizo/Salami and Wine
This has to be one of the best and cheapest ways to eat. Go to a bakery and deli, of which there are plenty in Seville and get yourself a nice crusty baguette (prices are normally around 40 cents). Chorizo sausage from the deli will set you back somewhere between €1 and €2 and you can pick up a bottle of wine from the supermarket from as little as 99 cents (and yes it is drinkable!). Find yourself a nice quiet spot and enjoy.
Supermarkets
There are plenty to be found in Seville, the largest of which is El Corte Ingles, where you can buy everything under one roof. The three main locations for this superstore are the Plaza del Duque, Plaza Magdalena and Nervion. They have smaller versions called Hypercor which are also dotted around the city. The French Hypermarket chain Carrefour also has several branches here but are mainly on the outskirts of the city. Finally you have Eroski, which is also a large Spanish chain of supermarkets and have several locations throughout Seville.
