From airport to city centre

San Pablo is the airport that serves Seville and is Andalusia’s second largest airport after Malaga. It is a fairly small but busy airport and consists of one terminal and one runway. It lies just 10 kms north east of the city and 80 percent of the traffic flying into it is domestic. Having said that, there are a number of international carriers that fly in to here including Ryanair, Royal Air Maroc, Air Berlin, TAP Portugal, Iberia airlines, XL Airways France and Brussels Airlines.

Travel to the city centre from the airport

There are a number of ways that you can get from the airport to the city centre and as it is only around 15 kms right into the heart of the city transport links are reasonable.

The cheapest option

By far the cheapest option to get you into the city centre is the airport shuttle bus. This runs every 30 minutes from 0615 right through to 2300 daily and the cost of a single one way ticket into Seville will cost you only €2.30. The time it takes can vary depending upon the traffic, but as a general rule of thumb, it takes somewhere between 30 and 40 minutes.

The most convenient option

If buses aren’t your thing, then you can take a taxi. There is a taxi stand right outside the arrivals entrance and they are plentiful, even in the small hours. However be aware that the standard minimum charge from the airport to the Plaza Nueva in the city centre will set you back €24.00, which probably isn’t so bad if there is four people per say. However be warned that in cases such as taxi sharing, some taxi drivers have been known to hike up the price.

Other options

Other options are by private transfer or hire car. There are private transfer companies who will pick you up from the airport and take you directly to your hotel but the costs of these services vary dramatically. There are also several hire car firms operating at the airport.  Again cost might be a factor and driving and navigating around the city of Seville can be a bit of a nightmare as it is full of one way streets and traffic lights. Both of these options are convenient, but they aren’t cheap.

Nearest train station

The nearest train station to Seville city centre and the airport is Santa Justa station. This is situated on Avenida de Kansas which is around 2kms out of the city centre. It is part of the fast AVE line and  from here it is a good hub to get connections to Portugal and also Madrid, which only takes around 2.5 hours.

Metro

As at the time of writing, the Government of Seville are ploughing a lot of money into extending the metro system. At present it consists of 22 stops, which are located all around the city.  Unfortunately, it doesn’t extend to the airport. However the good news is that plans for another 4 lines are in place and work is due to start on these shortly. They are looking to complete around 2017.
