Shopping malls

Seville, the capital of Andalusia, in Spain, is the largest city in southern Spain, and is known for its rich cultural and culinary history.  A center for research, and the home of a number of notable museums, Seville also offers a varied and popular nightlife that has made it a popular tourist destination.

The city has experienced exponential growth since the early 90s, and is currently Spain’s fourth largest city and Andalusia’s most economically stable.  Open-air markets and shopping districts are still very much the norm in Seville, with the warm Mediterranean climate rendering enclosed shopping areas largely unnecessary.  The city does offer a few shopping centers, however, which are outlined below.

1.  Plaza de Armas

Built inside the former location of the Cordoba train station, Plaza de Armas is made up of shops, restaurants, bars, and a multi-screen cinema.  Centrally located opposite a bus station, and steps from the world famous Plaza de Armas Hotel, the smallest of Seville’s malls houses local shops and international chains, as well as a large supermarket.

2.  Los Arcos

Los Arcos is modeled after the large malls found in the United States and is almost indistinguishable from them, both in architecture and shopping options.  Located outside of Seville proper, a car or bus is necessary to reach the complex.  Comprised of over 100 shops, including Toys R’ Us and a Disney Store, Los Arcos is also home to a movie theater and Hipercor, a large supermarket that sells food, electronics, household items, and everything in between.

3.  Nervion Plaza

Opened in 1998, Nervion Plaza is a sprawling 25,000 square meter commercial complex. The most high-end of the malls in Seville, the Plaza is made up of approximately 100 shops and restaurants, and a cinema with twenty screens, spread out over 300 floors.  In an effort to attract visitors accustomed to pampering, Nervion employs a group of personal shoppers, and also offers childcare for shoppers with children.
